NORDLYS/P-noise research trip in Manila

We have been supported by the Danish Art council to go to Manila for a research trip to be able to create Manila VOL. 2.
By sending Ray Roa from P-noise and Julie Rasmussen from NORDLYS they will meet up with new and old collaborators, scout for locations and be inspired to create a new cultural meeting point for Nordic and Filipino artists.

Day 1

34509128_10156214573805977_5409139524057956352_o

6th of June
We arrived in hot Manila, where we met up with our local bodyguards (Rays cousins) and got to our hostel Lub d, which is in the heart of Manila. This could definitely work as a good place for the artists to stay, if we choose locations in this area. It´s light and clean rooms, and a nice meeting point in the lobby with food drinks and a big meeting room. There will also soon be a rooftop restaurant!

“An immersion in a gloomy place, where the unknown is lurking around the corner in recognizable disguise.
Is it you or me in this unreal reality, or me and you in a conscious dream?

Inspired by David Lynch’s dark, surreal and quirky work, with a twist of understated naivety.”

Exorcism#1

sarah_armstrong_exorcism2

-life is an need of an exorcism…

Exorcism#1 is the beginning of a series of small choreographic works by Sarah Armstrong, which seek to explore the notion of gnostic and transformative acts. An attempt to execute a modern day exorcism from the culture of habit and path. To evoke a new identity of self in the present.

Sarah Armstrong (DK)

Sarah Armstrong is an independent artist based in copenhagen working in the field of performance, writing, dance and choreography. She graduated from laban dance university, london and has performed in various performance art festivals and venues during the past years, abroad and nationally. Sarah mostly works in solo contexts, which seek to either explore, damage or celebrate. Her works are concerned with themes such as; fluidity, normativity, power structure, transformation, failure and silliness as another form of wisdom.

Two of the projects has already been created and performed, the third is in its beginning faze, MOPA – ReRe MIx is a sidetrack created for NORDLYS and in the middle/part of  MOPA – I disapper in darkness and MOPA – The Sociocats.

Pontus Pettersson (SE)

oceanpiePontus Pettersson (1983) is a Swedish dancer and choreographer based in Stockholm. He received his dance training at Statens Scenek

unst Skole in Copenhagen and holds a master in choreography from the University of Dance and Circus in Stockholm. His choreographic work ranges from fortune telling to choreographies/dances on the main stage, from a necklace to sweet whispers in you ear. It is a love for dancing with a particular interest in objects that bridge to a choreography that is as much daring, useless and beautiful.

Fight Fire With Fire

fight-fire-with-fire1

Af og med Julie Rasmussen & Maren Fidje Bjørneseth (NO)

Prolog

It’s like role playing.

My role…

is…

all the thoughts that provoke your fear…

Yours…

is rational thinking.

I am nature…

All the things that you call nature.

Okay, Mr. Nature.

What do you want?

Fight Fire with fire leger med hvordan to mennesker prøver at forstå hinandens instinkter.

The duet plays with the mix of deadly seriousness and humour. Where two people meet and try to understand each others instincts.

Female Fonda Fans

austerulmen3

Jane Fonda’s aerobics video from 1982 is the starting point for this complex and light hearted portrait of a complex character that encapsules the caring mother figure, the exercising body fixated power woman and the sexually unstoppable vixen.

Just a stupid little piece/Girl on fire (DK)

nordlys værker-8
Foto: Dansekunst i Grenland/Jan Erik Fillan

HVORNÅR: Kl. 19.00 – 21.00 den 4. og 5. september
OPMØDE: Onkel Dannys Plads/ Kødbyen

”Just a stupid little piece/Girl on fire” is just that. A stupid little piece and a girl on fire. Hilde plays the role of herself, and at the same time; the role of fire, the flame. The confusion is accompanied by Alicia Keys, who is also not sure. A girl? A flame? Fire? She is moving through space, flowing, catching and sharing sparks. The moment where she suddenly remembers that she is a girl, it hurts a bit to be on fire.

The piece is mainly for fun. It is also for the joy of movement and for the choreographers addiction to surprising and sudden electric shocks and changes.

Underneath, there are questions of why we always wish to be or become something.

Looks like a girl, but she`s a flame.

HVORNÅR: Kl. 19.00 – 21.00 den 4. og 5. september
OPMØDE: Onkel Dannys Plads/ Kødbyen

”I dwell upon people” is based on the way metaphors are made. They represent situations that one may be familiar with. “I dwell upon people” shows how it is to work as a young artist in the field of performing arts. Deals with the topic of subsidy within arts and questioning the art itself. “ LOOK AT IT! IT IS RIGHT INFRONT OF YOUR EYES; IT IS A PIECE OF ART….”

PEOPLE (NO)

HVORNÅR:
Kl. 19.00 – 21.00 den 4. og 5. september
OPMØDE: Onkel Dannys Plads/ Kødbyen

People have an inlaid feeling that they have the ability to predict the future, or if they see
patterns they have a built in feeling that they’re meaningful,
and a built in feeling that they can control things. (Leonard Mlodinow)

”People” is a confusing, hypnotizing, bizarre and occasionally frantic quartet where the four

Valtteris video presentation

HVORNÅR:
Kl. 19.00 – 21.00 den 4. og 5. september
OPMØDE: Onkel Dannys Plads/ Kødbyen

A starkly minimalistic physical exploration of memories and dreams, transformed into one solo and a duet. Memory has no chronology, where Valtteri is trying to analyze childhood emotions and memories that have survived only as fragmentary flashes, no matter how hard he tries to return to them. ”What if one didn’t strive to recreate the truth, but would uninhibitedly exaggerate, paraphrase and plagiarize? Does a performance always present everything as the truth, or reveal a lie to the spectator?

How to be/loved – Perspectives (DK)

HVORNÅR: Kl. 20.00 – 21.00 (med artist talk)
HVOR: Forsøgs stationen – Sønder Blvd. 81, 1720 København V

The piece deals with the complexity of family relations and how contradictory they can be. Wanting to be close, and not. Wanting the other family members to take part of ones life, and not. Maybe the most intriguing contradiction is how difficult it can be to receive love, when this is what we want and need the most. Whenever a situation between the two performers rethink what they were certain of just a minute ago. The movement and text are complementing, and sometimes contradicting, each other creating an intriguing and complex expression.

Oudeis (SE)

HVORNÅR: Kl. 19.00 – 21.00 den 4. og 5. september
OPMØDE: Onkel Dannys Plads/ Kødbyen

Oudeis is a choreographic installation that rediscover a new relationship between the moving body and the story of Odysseus. A dance without center where voices can speak from the various body parts as if they were characters from the story. A framework in which the physical movement is dictated by the word and the words dictated by the movement, where the relationship between  the two is re-‐written.

Glitter Bird

My Grönholdt henter i soloforestillingen Glitter Bird inspiration fra “Turning” – en musikdokumentar af Charles Atlas Antony and the Johnsons.

The solo perfomance Glitter Bird is a magical tribute to diversity and the unique takes inspiration from the film “Turning”  by Charles Atlas.
